Romania's PSD now proposing two candidates for EU commissioner

Romania's Social Democrats have also proposed deputy Foreign Minister Melania-Gabriela Ciot as Commissioner-designate, after earlier picking European lawmaker Dan Nica for the post, party sources were quoted by television Digi24 as saying.

Digi24 said the ruling party now had two nominees for the EU commissioner job after diplomatic sources told the station that Brussels wanted a man and a woman to be nominated.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila's first choice for transport commissioner, Rovana Plumb, was rejected on Monday, along with Hungary's candidate, by the legal affairs committee of the EU parliament because of conflicts of interest.
