Afghan foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani resigns from his post - media

Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani has reportedly resigned from his post on Wednesday in a letter to President Ashraf Ghani, according to local media. The 48-year old has held the post since 2015 and is from Jamiat-e Islami party.

In his resignation letter to Ghani on Wednesday, Rabbani expressed disappointment over the "unbearable" treatment of Foreign Ministry which he says has been sidelined and is being treated as a non-governmental organization.

Rabbani expressed support for Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, Ghani's prime opponent, in presidential elections held on September 28. The results of the election are yet to be announced.
