Southwest Monsoon Brings Relief After 10-Day Lull

The Southwest Monsoon resumed its advance covering parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha, bringing respite to regions suffering from hot weather. India faced a 17% rainfall deficiency until now. The IMD predicts above-normal rain for central and southern India, crucial for agriculture and water reservoirs.

After a 10-day lull, the Southwest Monsoon began its northward journey, covering parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and large portions of Vidarbha. This brought much-needed relief to areas enduring severe heat.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the nation has seen a 17 per cent shortfall in rainfall compared to the average for this season—77 mm against the normal 92.8 mm recorded from June 1 to 20.

The IMD forecasts favorable conditions for further advancement of the monsoon into more parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, and east Uttar Pradesh in the next three to four days.
