Pune Tightens Safety at Tourist Hotspots After Tragic Drownings

The Pune administration has introduced stringent safety protocols at hazardous tourist spots after several tragic incidents. Measures include identifying dangerous zones, deploying lifeguards, and installing warning signs. The move underscores the urgent need for improved safety standards to prevent further tragedies at popular tourist destinations in the district.

In a bid to prevent future tragedies, the Pune administration has announced a comprehensive set of safety measures at hazardous tourist locations throughout the district. These precautions come on the heels of a heartbreaking incident where a woman and four children were swept away at a waterfall near Bhushi Dam.

The new guidelines include the identification and demarcation of dangerous areas, the presence of lifeguards and rescue teams, and the installation of warning boards to caution visitors. The recent drownings at Pavana Dam have particularly underscored the urgency of these enhanced safety protocols.

Pune Collector Dr. Suhas Divase emphasized the need for strict implementation, stating that agencies like the revenue, forest, and municipal corporations will be responsible for ensuring the safety of tourists. Special teams, including NGOs and rescue foundations, will be enlisted to manage disaster-prone regions effectively.
