Uttar Pradesh Embarks on Massive Tree Plantation Drive to Boost Green Cover

Uttar Pradesh plans to plant 36.46 crore saplings statewide in a large-scale effort to increase green cover. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the 'Ped Lagao, Ped Bachao Jan Abhiyan - 2024' in Lucknow. The campaign aligns with PM Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,' encouraging citizens to participate.

In an ambitious move to improve Uttar Pradesh's green cover, the state government will plant 36.46 crore saplings on Saturday, spearheaded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The CM is slated to kick off the 'Ped Lagao, Ped Bachao Jan Abhiyan - 2024' campaign by planting saplings in Lucknow's Akbarnagar area.

The initiative seeks to address environmental issues and revive the Kukrail river, previously hindered by unauthorized encroachments. Strong measures, including geo-tagging, will be in place to ensure the plants' safety, officials confirmed.

This massive plantation effort is supported by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, urging people to plant trees in their mother's name. Over the last seven years, Uttar Pradesh has seen the plantation of more than 168 crore saplings, leading to increased greenery on 1.98 lakh acres, said state officials.
