Uttar Pradesh's Green Initiative: 36 Crore Saplings to Combat Global Warming

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh announced an ambitious record-breaking plan to plant over 36 crore saplings across the state. The campaign, in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for environmental action, aims to combat global warming and its adverse effects, while encouraging community participation and sustainable practices.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared a landmark initiative on Saturday, aiming to plant over 36 crore saplings across the state. This move is set to break records and significantly contribute to environmental preservation.

Addressing a large-scale plantation campaign, Adityanath echoed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for every citizen to plant a tree in honor of their mothers on World Environment Day. He highlighted the dire consequences of global warming, stressing human responsibility in mitigating this crisis.

The Chief Minister pointed to recent environmental events, such as severe flooding affecting 24 districts, as a direct result of climate change. He urged collective action to preserve the environment and stressed the importance of this initiative in preventing future disasters. Since 2017, the state has planted 168 crore saplings, with a survival rate of 75-80%.

Adityanath also discussed the broader benefits of tree plantation, including reducing carbon emissions and earning carbon credits for farmers. Additionally, efforts like banning single-use plastics, installing LED street lights, and planting heritage trees are part of Uttar Pradesh's comprehensive strategy to fight climate change.

He cited the example of the Kukrail River restoration project, where the government reclaimed land from the land mafia to establish a night safari and forest reserve. The state also supports urban greenery, seen in recent plantation drives at the Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench.
