In one of the most devastating natural disasters to strike Kerala, at least 123 people lost their lives, and 128 were injured in massive landslides triggered by torrential rains in Wayanad on Tuesday. Rescue agencies are racing against time to locate survivors amid fears of mounting fatalities.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the disaster has claimed 123 lives so far, with 128 people receiving treatment at various hospitals. Landslides have left communities in Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha devastated, displacing over 3,000 inhabitants.
Additional rescue teams comprising the Army, Navy, Air Force, and NDRF are joining forces to aid the rescue efforts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Kerala's chief minister of the Center's full support and announced financial aid for the victims' families.
