Severe rainfall in Delhi wreaked havoc, causing waterlogging and increasing the death toll to five, officials reported on Thursday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that six weather stations in the city recorded over 100 mm of rain in a day, categorizing it as an 'extremely intense spell.'
Areas like Rajinder Nagar, the epicenter of protests following the drowning of three UPSC aspirants, were heavily waterlogged, with MCD officials working tirelessly to drain the water. Protests persisted, demanding accountability from authorities amid the adverse weather conditions.
In addition, Delhi Police received 26 calls of building collapses and numerous reports of traffic jams and uprooted trees. The AAP and BJP engaged in a blame game over the city's preparedness and response, with calls for the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
