India's Torrential Rains: Deaths, Destruction, and Rescue Efforts

Torrential rains have wreaked havoc in North India, triggering deadly landslides and flooding that left more than 20 people dead and hundreds displaced. States including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Kerala have borne the brunt of the disaster, with significant casualties and widespread property damage reported.
Rescue teams are racing against time to locate survivors amid the devastation. In Uttarakhand, flash floods and landslides claimed several lives, submerged homes, and washed out roads, leaving many areas isolated. State authorities have deployed teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to assist in rescue operations.
Further south in Kerala's Wayanad district, the death toll from devastating landslides has reached 177, as rescue efforts continue. Himachal Pradesh also reported multiple incidents of cloudbursts, leading to additional casualties and widespread damage. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured state governments of all necessary support from the Centre.
