In light of recent natural disasters such as the landslide in Kerala, ISRO chairman S Somanath emphasized the limitations of space technology in locating people trapped under debris. He stated that only a certain depth of filtration is possible using space-based sensors.

During an Instagram outreach program, #asksomanatisro, Somanath addressed various questions, including ISRO's collaboration with NASA for astronaut training under the Space Flight Agreement announced on August 2. He highlighted the value of such collaborations in preparing 'Gaganyatris' for future missions.

Somanath also spoke about ISRO's initial failures that paved the way for its successes, stressing the importance of learning from these setbacks. He shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming National Space Day on August 23, celebrating Chandrayaan 3's historic moon landing.
