Goa's Commitment to Cleanliness: CM Pramod Sawant Leads 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2024' Campaign

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant discussed the 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2024' cleanliness campaign with civic officials and key government figures. This nationwide campaign aims to promote large-scale citizen participation and emphasizes voluntary efforts for comprehensive cleanliness. Goa's achievements under the Swachh Bharat Mission and future initiatives were highlighted during the interaction.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday interacted with civic officials, Swahilympur Mitras, and other key government officials to discuss the ongoing 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2024' campaign.

This campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is being implemented countrywide from September 17 to October 2 as part of the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM). The initiative aims to foster massive citizen participation and cleanliness drives across the state.

The chief minister stressed the significance of collective action and voluntary participation to achieve comprehensive cleanliness, or 'Sampoorna Swachhata'. He acknowledged the campaign's focus on tackling challenging garbage sites, recognizing sanitation workers' hard work, and celebrating the state's waste management progress over the past decade.

This year's campaign theme, 'Swabhav Swachhata Sanskaar Swachhata', underscores a commitment to embedding cleanliness as a societal value and practice.

Sawant praised Goa's accomplishments under the Swachh Bharat Mission, emphasizing the state's leadership in waste management. During SBM 1.0, Goa was one of the first states to attain 100% waste collection in urban areas, thanks to significant investments in infrastructure like garbage vehicles, baling machines, and material recovery facility (MRF) sheds.

Under SBM 2.0, Goa plans to focus on treating segregated waste with ongoing projects like biomethanation plants and MRF sheds in Valpoi, Mormugao, and Canacona.

Sawant emphasized that the Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign, organized jointly by SBM-Grameen and SBM-Urban under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, aims to sustain the momentum through community involvement and innovative initiatives.

During the virtual interaction, the chief minister outlined key activities, including mega cleanliness drives targeting water bodies, roads, and garbage dumps, health and welfare camps for SafaiMitras, awareness campaigns and competitions in schools and colleges, roadshows, the transformation of black spots into clean spots, and enforcing the single-use plastics ban in markets.
