The U.S. National Hurricane Center announced on Sunday that a tropical depression has strengthened into Tropical Storm Barry, which promises to bring significant rainfall to eastern Mexico in coming days. Tropical Storm Barry is currently generating maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour, as reported by the NHC. The storm is presently situated 90 miles east-southeast of Tuxpan, a locality in Veracruz state.

While Barry could see slight intensification prior to making landfall along the eastern Mexican coast, experts anticipate a rapid weakening of the storm once it moves over land, according to forecasters.
