Devastating Floods Ravage Eastern Romania

Severe floods hit eastern Romania, killing one person and causing significant damage to homes, roads, and bridges. Hundreds were evacuated as emergency responders, including helicopters, searched for stranded individuals. The worst-hit areas were Neamt and Suceava counties, where record-high river levels were recorded.

Severe overnight floods claimed a life and left a trail of destruction in eastern Romania, damaging thousands of homes and necessitating the evacuation of hundreds. Local officials reported on Monday that helicopters were deployed to find villagers stranded by rising waters.

A total of 25 villages across nine counties experienced torrential rains and gale-force winds. These conditions tore roofs from buildings and uprooted trees, leading to traffic disruptions on several major roads, according to the country's emergency response agency.

Neamt and Suceava counties were the hardest hit, as two rivers overflowed, causing a 66-year-old man's death and prompting mass evacuations. Brosteni village in Suceava county became inaccessible after roads were blocked. The Environment Ministry's water management agency reported record-high river water levels while efforts to repair collapsed bridges commenced.
