In a bid to effectively tackle air pollution, the Delhi government has constituted an 'Expert Group on Air Pollution Mitigation' aimed at providing evidence-based guidance on air quality management, an official statement revealed.
Headed by retired IAS officer and former Union environment secretary Leena Nandan, the group will advise on sector-specific interventions and policy reforms required to mitigate pollution, both anthropogenic and natural. Key professionals from institutions like IIT and TERI are part of this high-level panel, which will function as an advisory body to enhance Delhi's air quality management strategy.
The team's primary task is to offer independent, scientific, and actionable advice for air pollution control, including emergency responses and structural reforms. Scheduled to meet monthly, the group's six-month initial term could be extended as needed, and confidentiality must be maintained throughout its operations.
