A tragic incident unfolded in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, where a magna elephant, an adult male elephant without tusks, was found electrocuted. The unfortunate event occurred in the Kemma Naicken Palayam sector, discovered by forest personnel during a routine patrol.
The ill-fated elephant, believed to be between 15 to 20 years old, was found lifeless in the Perumpallam dam area. Officials have reported that the elephant likely came into contact with electric fencing while traversing the land, with further investigations underway to ascertain the precise cause of death.
In a related development, a 75-year-old farmer named Muthan was detained near the site of the elephant's demise for further questioning. This incident marks the second elephant loss due to suspected electrocution in Erode district this month, raising concerns over electric fencing in the region.
