Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced a crackdown on tourist establishments failing to adhere to fire safety norms, following a devastating nightclub fire that claimed 25 lives. Sawant warned that licenses will be canceled for non-compliance.
During a high-level meeting attended by North and South Goa administrations, police, tourism stakeholders, and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, CMS Sawant emphasized strict safety measures before the holiday season. The government-formed fire safety audit committee has started inspections to ensure all tourism establishments adhere to regulatory norms.
Sawant underscored the importance of preventing such tragedies and urged compliance across tourism sectors, including implementing safety precautions for water and adventure sports. He also mandated measures to prevent employee-tourist disputes and promised tough action on touts.
