West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to inaugurate an ambitious road project on Thursday, marking one of the state's most significant infrastructural endeavors to date. The 'Pathashree' and 'Rastashree' schemes will spearhead the development of over 20,000 kilometers of roads across the region.
This monumental project is strategically launched months before the looming assembly elections, serving as the highlight of Banerjee's one-day visit to Nadia. An official ceremony at Krishnanagar's district headquarters will see Banerjee officially kickstart the construction work, which is entirely funded by the state exchequer and valued at Rs 8,487 crore.
The grassroots initiative involves the construction of 15,011 kilometers in rural areas at a cost of Rs 6,987 crore, alongside 5,019 kilometers of new roads in urban locales under the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, budgeted at Rs 1,500 crore. With state cabinet approval and a new tendering portal in place, construction is slated to commence in January next year.
