The Maharashtra government, in a strategic move, plans to relocate high-frequency radar centres from Dahisar and Juhu to more suitable sites, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Saturday. This decision aims to unlock redevelopment potential in these areas, where current radar installations restrict building heights.
During a legislative assembly session, Fadnavis disclosed that the Ministry of Civil Aviation, along with the Union government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), agreed to relocate the Dahisar radar. The state will cover relocation costs and offer alternative land, with Gorai land transferred to the Centre at no cost.
The move is part of a broader redevelopment strategy, including a new housing policy favoring economically weaker sections and lower-income groups. The policy proposes up to 300 square feet of free FSI for EWS and 600 square feet for LIG, using unused FSI as TDRs to fund projects, resolving longstanding redevelopment challenges.
