The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a stern warning to vehicle owners about facing police action, including First Information Reports (FIRs), if unauthorized parking hinders firefighting or rescue operations in Mumbai.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani clarified during a recent meeting that action would be taken against those whose illegal parking causes delays in fire engine or rescue vehicle access to disaster sites.
A new directive mandates that if illegal parking is identified as a reason for delayed emergency responses, the responsible fire officer must document the obstructing vehicle and its registration number before lodging a police complaint. This initiative aims to deter illegal parking, promote public awareness, and improve the Mumbai Fire Brigade's responsiveness.
