On Saturday, Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains revealed an extensive flood protection strategy amounting to Rs 52 crore, designed to safeguard villages along the Sutlej and Swan rivers. The initiative focuses on Sri Anandpur Sahib constituency, targeting areas historically vulnerable to monsoon flooding.

The state government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has accelerated the development of crucial flood protection infrastructure. Tenders worth Rs 52 crore have been issued, with physical construction expected to commence soon. Additionally, projects worth Rs 30 crore are being planned to enhance future protection measures.

Significant works include the construction of a 700-foot-long revetment at Burj village and Ajauli village, alongside a 2,000-foot-long structure at Lodhipur village. Efforts are also extending to Bhalan, Triveni Mandir, Nangran, and other affected locales. With over 11,000 feet of revetments planned, the government remains committed to expanding these measures in response to local needs.
