Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated the fifth Kalyan Mandapam in Gorakhpur on Saturday, positioning it as a viable, low-cost alternative to traditional, expensive venues such as marriage halls and hotels. Adityanath emphasized Gorakhpur's status as a development model, highlighting the affordability of these community spaces.
The Kalyan Mandapam, a product of the Gorakhpur Development Authority and primarily funded by the Chief Minister's MLA development fund, cost Rs 2.47 crore. Adityanath personally contributed Rs 2 crore. He noted the evolution from makeshift road events to requiring proper venues, underlining their increasing utility on high-demand days when thousands of weddings occur simultaneously.
The Chief Minister announced that, besides the five completed Kalyan Mandapams, five more are under construction across various city locales, financed by municipal and other civic funds. These facilities aim to not only benefit economically disadvantaged populations but also spur job creation. Adityanath lauded ongoing housing initiatives and budgetary allocations targeting development across the state.
