The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a major initiative to plant 3.5 billion trees in a single day as part of an ambitious afforestation effort. The campaign, named 'Mega Plantation Campaign-2026', aims to mobilize mass participation across the state.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the importance of public involvement in achieving this monumental target. He directed planting efforts under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, aiming for substantial growth in the region's greenery.
The state has made significant progress in afforestation, with plans for enhancing green cover from 9.96% to 15% by 2030, and further to 20% by 2047. Various projects include planting along the newly developed Ganga Expressway, as well as in educational institutions and dedicated memorial sites.
