U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the United States will launch an offensive against Iran if a peace agreement cannot be attained, following the downing of a U.S. Apache helicopter.

According to Trump, the U.S. military successfully executed a covert operation, escorting over 100 million barrels of oil through the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. This mission, as suggested, caused a decrease in global oil prices, currently valued at $85-$90 a barrel.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright clarified during a congressional hearing that none of the ships ferried oil belonging to Iran, a key player in OPEC. Trump emphasized the importance of signing a comprehensive deal with Iran to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons.
