After Ryder Cup flop, Mickelson says he's done with 'brutal' rough

Phil Mickelson failed to record a single point for the United States in their lopsided Ryder Cup defeat to Europe last weekend and the American says he no longer has any interest in playing courses that feature "brutal rough". In his 12th Ryder Cup appearance, Mickelson was restricted to only two matches at Le Golf National in Paris. He partnered Bryson DeChambeau to a foursome's defeat on an opening day and was not seen again until the Sunday singles, where he lost to British Open champion Francesco Molinari.

MLB notebook: Yanks tab Happ for Game 1 vs. Red Sox

The New York Yankees will counter ace left-hander Chris Sale with a southpaw of their own, sending J.A. Happ to the mound against the Red Sox for Game 1 of the teams' American League Division Series on Friday night at Fenway Park in Boston. Happ hasn't lost since joining the Yankees via trade from the Toronto Blue Jays in July. He's 7-0 with a 2.69 ERA in 11 starts for New York.

Joshua's camp makes 'much-improved' offer for Wilder fight

Anthony Joshua's representatives have made a "much-improved" offer for a world heavyweight title unification fight against WBC champion Deontay Wilder but so far the overtures have been rebuffed, promoter Eddie Hearn has said. The 28-year-old Joshua, who holds the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO crowns, stopped Russian Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium last month and is locked in to stage his next bout at the same venue in April next year.
