Kishore Jena, an Asian Games silver medal-winning javelin thrower, was on the verge of abandoning the sport in 2023 due to poor performances. His father's advice and Neeraj Chopra's Olympic success provided the inspiration needed for a remarkable comeback.
While Neeraj's Tokyo Olympics gold motivated Jena, it also left him feeling dejected as he struggled to achieve significant throws. By July 2022, his frustration peaked, nearly leading him to quit before the World Championships.
During a major low, Jena competed in the Lebanon National Championships but failed to impress. Doubtful of his hard work's worth, he consulted his father, who encouraged him to continue competing. A significant turning point came at the Sri Lanka event in July 2023, where Jena's 84.38m throw qualified him for the World Championships.
Despite not meeting the automatic qualification mark for the Budapest World Championships, Jena achieved a personal best of 84.77m, finishing fifth. His journey continued with a silver medal at the Asian Games, a personal best of 87.54m, and qualification for Paris 2024.
