When Lindsey Vonn skied in her fourth and final Olympics in South Korea in 2018, her family endured three-hour train rides from Seoul to the mountains to watch her compete. Earlier experiences weren't much better.

For Salt Lake City's 2034 Winter Olympics bid, Vonn, now a retired alpine ski racer, aimed to ease the burden on athletes' families. 'It's never been done before in the Olympics,' Vonn said at the Paris Summer Olympics. Vonn is proud that the Utah capital will feature at least one family village including transportation, tickets, and other logistical help.

Vonn, 39, who won three gold medals across four Olympics, sustained numerous injuries that interrupted her career. While a comeback isn't on the horizon, she's enthusiastic about her role in the upcoming Games. Vonn made mental notes during Paris' opening ceremony, hoping to contribute significantly to Salt Lake City's event planning.

Over the years, she has corresponded with tennis stars like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic about bouncing back from knee injuries. Vonn plans to attend the 2026 Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, a location that holds special significance as she made her first podium appearance and broke records there.
