Australian forward Tomi Juric has left Indian Super League (ISL) club NorthEast United FC, the club announced on Wednesday. Juric joined the team in the winter transfer window of the last season, stepping in for Brazilian striker Ibson Melo.
Juric made a significant impact during his brief stint with the Highlanders, scoring five goals in six matches. Notably, he netted a brace against East Bengal FC, securing a victory for his team, and repeated the feat against Mohun Bagan SG in their subsequent away fixture. His remarkable form was interrupted by an injury that sidelined him for a few critical matches in the 2023-2024 season.
Despite NorthEast United FC's efforts to retain the prolific scorer, including the best offer the club has ever made, Juric chose not to extend his contract, which concluded on May 31. Head coach Juan Pedro Benali expressed understanding of Juric's decision, citing his desire to stay in Europe to be close to his family. Benali emphasized that Juric will always be welcomed back at the club, referring to him as part of the family.
