Zheng Qinwen has made history by defeating world number one Iga Swiatek, becoming the first Chinese player to reach the Olympic singles final. This remarkable event comes on the heels of China's mixed doubles pair, Wang Xinyu and Zhang Zhizhen, advancing to the finals by beating their Dutch rivals.
"I'm so happy that I could make history for Chinese tennis. I always wanted to be one of the athletes who can get a medal for China, for our country, and right now I'm one of them," Zheng told reporters. She emphasized that the journey isn't over, stating, "I've made history already but I don't want to stop here."
In another victory, Wang Xinyu, who had just replaced Zheng in the mixed doubles, and Zhang Zhizhen defeated Demi Schuurs and Wesley Koolhof in a super tiebreak, becoming the second Chinese pair to reach an Olympic doubles final since 2004.
