By Vivek Prabhakar Singh. Kishore Jena, one of India's top javelin throwers, spoke candidly about expectations surrounding Neeraj Chopra, the 'Golden Boy,' and his rivalry with Pakistan's leading thrower, Arshad Nadeem.
Jena will compete in Group A, while Neeraj is in Group B alongside Arshad during the qualification round at the ongoing Paris Olympics. Athletes must clear the 84.00m mark to advance to the finals. Discussing his preparations, Jena promised to give his all in his Olympic debut.
'Preparation is excellent, and we have significant support here. I will give my best tomorrow, aiming to perform like a finalist. This being my first time, I will give 100 per cent,' Jena told ANI. All eyes are on Neeraj, the defending Olympic gold medallist who recently achieved a season-best throw of 88.36m.
Neeraj is determined to defend his gold medal. Speaking about Neeraj, Jena wished his compatriot the best for his upcoming challenge. 'Indian athletics has significantly grown because of Neeraj bhai. Everyone has high hopes for him. It feels good to have him with us, and we wish him well,' he added.
While Neeraj's gold medal quest captures global attention, the rivalry theme remains strong in men's javelin. The India-Pakistan rivalry extends beyond cricket and into javelin throwing.
Fans eagerly await another enthralling contest between Arshad and Neeraj. Jena, the Asian Games silver medallist, dismissed any heightened rivalry. 'It's the Olympics; many countries compete. There's no particular rivalry. It's friendly when we meet. There's no ill intent,' Jena said.
