Young Indian grappler Aman Sehrawat rekindled India's hopes of a medal in wrestling by overpowering former world champion Zelimkhan Abakarov of Albania in the 57kg freestyle semifinal at the Paris Olympics on Thursday.

Aman, 21, demonstrated exceptional skill and agility, scoring a resounding 12-0 victory over Abakarov by technical superiority. The bout saw the young athlete using leg holds and a 'fitley' (leg lace) to turn his opponent over multiple times in the second round.

Elsewhere, women's wrestler Anshu Malik put up a brave fight against USA's Helen Louise Maroulis but ultimately lost 2-7 in the 57kg pre-quarterfinals. Anshu's qualification for a bronze medal now depends on the 'repechage' system, hinging on Maroulis's progression to the final.
