In a video call, PM Modi addressed the team and coach Craig Fulton, humorously referring to Harmanpreet as 'Sarpanch Sahab,' sparking laughter. He praised the team, expressing belief in their ability to revive India's golden era in hockey.
Modi also congratulated veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, calling him the 'God of Indian Modern Hockey' and urged him to mentor new players. Despite losing to Germany in the semi-finals, India's memorable quarter-final win against Great Britain with 10 men was highlighted by the Prime Minister.
Prior to this, PM Modi took to his X account to laud the team's skill, perseverance, and team spirit. He emphasized the achievement's significance as India's first consecutive hockey medals in 52 years.
