18-year-old Yang Min-hyeok has been named in South Korea's 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Palestine and Oman. The Tottenham-bound winger has shown exceptional performance for Gangwon FC. Head coach Hong Myung-bo acknowledges Yang's efforts, hoping for continued success as Yang joins Son Heung-min in the squad.
Yang Min-hyeok, bound for Tottenham Hotspur, has been selected in South Korea's 26-man squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Palestine and Oman. This marks the first time the 18-year-old has been chosen for the senior national team.
South Korea's head coach, Hong Myung-bo, who recently took over long-term from Juergen Klinsmann, included Yang following his impressive form with Gangwon FC. "I think he has done enough this season to deserve a spot on the national team," Hong told reporters on Monday. "His body of work for this season speaks for itself, and I think this was the right time to give him this opportunity."
Yang has been pivotal in Gangwon's success this season with eight goals, leading them to the top of the K League. He signed a five-and-a-half year contract to join Tottenham in July and will move to London in January after the Korean season ends, reuniting with fellow South Korean star Son Heung-min. Son, who is in his 10th season with Spurs, will captain the South Korean squad next month as they aim for their 11th consecutive World Cup finals.
