South African batsmen Tony de Zorzi and Tristan Stubbs made headlines on Tuesday as they scored their maiden test hundreds in a dominant performance against Bangladesh. On the opening day of the second test, the tourists posted a formidable total of 307 for two wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
De Zorzi battled through cramp-inducing conditions to remain unbeaten on 141, reaching the milestone in 146 balls. Stubbs, who scored 106, curbed his attacking style over 193 balls. His dismissal came from a quicker delivery by Taijul Islam. This partnership significantly boosted South Africa after electing to bat first.
Despite a promising start, South Africa's stand-in captain Aiden Markram fell for 33, missing an opportunity to bolster his average. Play was halted due to bad light, with David Bedingham joining de Zorzi at the crease. The visitors are in the lead, having won the first test by seven wickets.
