The Alpine Formula 1 team is set to transition to using Mercedes engines and gearboxes from 2026, as parent company Renault plans to cease its internal F1 engine program. This significant shift aligns with the forthcoming new engine regulations, set to commence in the 2026 season.
Alpine's announcement came alongside a notable performance in Brazil, where the team achieved a surprise double podium finish with Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly taking second and third places, respectively. This success highlighted their potential, despite an otherwise challenging season.
Renowned for its storied history in F1, Renault will focus on converting its Viry-Chatillon factory to an engineering center for other ventures. The move marks a new chapter for Alpine, as it aims for formidable results in upcoming seasons with this strategic partnership with Mercedes.
