In a sparkling performance in the Women's Premier League 2025 season opener, Richa Ghosh led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a thrilling six-wicket win over Gujarat Giants (GG). Mithali Raj, a former India cricketer, commended the 21-year-old's remarkable innings during an interview with JioHotstar, applauding her vital role in the victory on Friday.
Richa Ghosh, displaying her natural attacking prowess, paired perfectly with Kanika Ahuja during a critical run chase against GG's formidable target of 202. After the early exit of Ellyse Perry, who had scored a pivotal half-century, Richa and Kanika showcased tremendous composure and aggression to steer RCB to triumph, with Richa securing the 'Player of the Match' title for her unbeaten 64.
Gujarat Giants, after winning the toss, struggled in the early phases but were bolstered by captain Ashleigh Gardner's fiery 79 not out and Beth Mooney's solid 56. Despite their efforts, GG fell short as RCB clinched victory with 9 balls to spare, thanks to a combined force from Richa, Ellyse Perry, and Kanika Ahuja. RCB, thus, begins their campaign with a promising start.
