In a promising start to the series, India reached 92/2 by lunch on Day 1, thanks to strong performances from Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. The pair managed a fifty-run partnership that set the tone for the team's innings at Headingley, Leeds, despite Rahul narrowly missing a half-century.

Debutant Sai Sudharsan's dismissal was a significant moment, as he was caught out by England captain Ben Stokes for a duck, right at the stroke of lunch. With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and the World Test Championship cycle at stake, England chose to bowl first after winning the toss.

This series marks a new era for India under Shubman Gill's captaincy, following the absence of seasoned players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin. Both Jaiswal and Rahul notched up scores of 42 as India eyed their first victory in England since 2002, amidst a session marked by their boundary-hitting prowess.
