Underdog Triumph: Divya Deshmukh's Grandmaster Journey

Divya Deshmukh, a 19-year-old emerging chess player from Nagpur, made a sensational breakthrough at the star-studded 2025 FIDE Women's World Cup.

Defying her underdog status, she not only secured a spot in the Candidates tournament but also clinched the prestigious title, earning her the esteemed Grandmaster (GM) status.

In an emotional victory, Deshmukh became the fourth Indian woman to achieve this milestone, following her victory over compatriot Koneru Humpy, amidst supportive family presence.
