Phillies get All-Star C Realmuto from Marlins
The Miami Marlins agreed Thursday to trade All-Star catcher J.T. Realmuto to the Philadelphia Phillies for catcher Jorge Alfaro and two pitching prospects, both teams announced. Miami, which had been trying to deal Realmuto for months, received hard-throwing right-hander Sixto Sanchez, left-hander Will Stewart and international bonus slot money from Philadelphia.
The 27-year-old Realmuto is under contract for $5.9 million in 2019 and has one year of arbitration eligibility still remaining. Realmuto made the National League All-Star team and won a Silver Slugger award last season. He batted .277 with a career-high 21 homers, 30 doubles, 74 RBIs and 74 runs in 125 games. He hit .303 in 137 games in 2016.
Alfaro, 25, batted .262 with 10 homers and 37 RBIs in 108 games for the Phillies in 2018. Sanchez, 20, was 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings at Class-A Clearwater last season. His fastball sits in the high 90s and tops out over 100 mph.
Stewart, 21, was 8-1 with a 2.06 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 113 2/3 innings at Class-A Lakewood. --Field Level Media
