Stefanos Tsitsipas Eyes a Comeback Amid Concerns Over ATP Tour Schedule
Stefanos Tsitsipas, former Australian Open finalist, returns to Grand Slam tennis after a back injury. The Greek player, ranked 33rd due to injury struggles, aims to enjoy competitiveness at Melbourne Park. He criticized the ATP tour's intense schedule, citing it as a cause of numerous player injuries and retirements in 2025.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, the former Australian Open runner-up, is making a comeback to Grand Slam tennis after a back injury cut short his 2025 season. The Greek player, who recently participated in two singles matches for Greece in the Davis Cup, focuses on enjoying the competition at Melbourne Park as he seeks to regain his form.
Currently ranked 33 in the world due to his recent injury challenges, Tsitsipas emphasized the need to address the ATP tour's demanding schedule. Many players retired from matches, and injuries peaked last year, which Tsitsipas believes directly relates to the intensity of 12-day ATP 1000 tournaments.
ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi defended the packed calendar, suggesting that players have input into scheduling and that clearer incentives are being developed to optimize match participation. However, Tsitsipas argues that small adjustments to the lengthy sessions could enhance player well-being and performance.
