BCCI Revamps Player Contracts: A+ Category Phased Out

The BCCI is eliminating the A+ category in player contracts introduced in 2018. The new structure will feature only A, B, and C categories, impacting cricketers like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing to streamline its central contracts by removing the A+ category originally implemented in 2018.

Currently, cricketers in the A+ category earn Rs 7 crore annually, with Rs 5 crore for A, Rs 3 crore for B, and Rs 1 crore for C categories. The 2025-26 retainers will only include A, B, and C categories. Four players—Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja—were previously in the A+ bracket; only Bumrah is still an all-format player.

The contracts will be confirmed at the upcoming Apex Council meeting, where a BCCI official confirmed no pay cuts for Bumrah or other A contract holders. Shubman Gill is expected to join the A category. Rohit and Kohli, as one-format players, are likely to move to the B category. The updated structure aims to simplify contracts, and an adjustment in B category payments is anticipated.
