In a recent interview, Pakistan's iconic spinner Saqlain Mushtaq revisited his memorable clashes with India's cricket star, Virender Sehwag, during the 2004 Multan Test. During this match, Sehwag achieved a historic milestone by scoring 309 runs, becoming the first Indian to reach a triple hundred in Tests.
Despite battling a shoulder injury and knee pain, Mushtaq was the only available spinner, compelling captain Inzamam-ul-Haq to field him regardless of his condition. Mushtaq described how, even under physical duress, he faced the daunting task of bowling to Sehwag. Sehwag, renowned for his aggressive stance, reportedly intended to hit Mushtaq for sixes during the encounter.
Sehwag's remarkable performance, which included 35 fours and six sixes, played a crucial role in securing India's victory by an innings and 52 runs. While Tendulkar also impressed with a near double century, Sehwag's innings, especially his sensational six from Mushtaq's delivery while on 295, is remembered as a legendary moment in cricket history.
