LIV Golf Gains Ranking Points Approval

LIV Golf has received approval from the Official World Golf Ranking to include their league in world ranking points. Starting immediately, the Saudi-funded league will distribute points to top finishers. This decision comes after debating criterion for inclusion since the league's launch in 2022.

LIV Golf celebrated a significant milestone as the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) granted it the ability to distribute ranking points for the first time on the eve of its fifth season.

The OWGR board's unanimous decision allows points to be awarded to the top 10 finishers and ties, differing from other tours that exclude only the bottom participants. Despite LIV Golf's exclusion from ranking points since 2022, the decision effectively broadens the league's competitive stature.

The long-debated ruling takes effect immediately as LIV Golf prepares to tee off in Saudi Arabia. Since the league's debut, its ranking point eligibility has been contentious, previously rejected in October 2023 due to issues of comparability with other tours.
