In a historic victory, Team India secured its third T20 World Cup title, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs. Achieving the unprecedented feat on home soil, India became the first team to defend the championship title successfully. The triumph was marked by record-breaking performances from Indian cricketers.
Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir, following his team's stellar performance, dedicated the win to former head coach Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman, head of the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Gambhir credited their foundational work for Indian cricket's current robust state, describing the CoE as the "pipeline for Indian cricket."
Gambhir expressed gratitude towards ICC chairman Jay Shah for his unwavering support during challenging times. He attributed India's victory to bold tactical decisions, such as a high-risk playing strategy and a decisive lineup shuffle featuring Sanju Samson, leading to substantial scores and crucial partnerships against New Zealand.
