India's Young Boxing Stars Set for Asian Glory in Tashkent
A 56-member Indian boxing team is ready for the Asian Boxing U15 and U17 Championships 2026 in Tashkent. With strong squads in both boys' and girls' categories, India aims to continue its success in international boxing and nurture future champions through a focus on grassroots development.
The Indian boxing contingent, comprising 56 members, is poised to make its mark at the Asian Boxing U15 and U17 Championships 2026, scheduled to kick off tomorrow in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This significant event will showcase the continent's most promising young talents across multiple weight categories. India is fielding a robust squad for both boys' and girls' competitions, underscoring the nation's commitment to grassroots development and nurturing future champions.
The event will see the U-17 teams consisting of 13 boxers each for boys and girls, competing in weight divisions from 44-46kg to +80kg. These teams will have the guidance of four coaches and a physiotherapist each. Meanwhile, the U-15 teams include 15 boxers for both boys and girls, with weight categories ranging from 30-33kg to +70kg, supported by five coaches and a physiotherapist per side. Boxing Federation of India President Ajay Singh emphasized the significance of these championships as a platform for young boxers to gain international exposure and compete against Asia's finest.
The championships are instrumental in identifying and nurturing the next generation of elite boxers. Many participants are expected to progress through national pathways and succeed in major international competitions in the future.
