Alexander Ospelt Narrowly Defeats Johan Eliasch to Lead FIS

In a closely contested election at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) congress in Belgrade, Liechtenstein's Alexander Ospelt emerged victorious over incumbent Johan Eliasch by just one vote.

Eliasch, who was seeking another four-year term, received 64 votes compared to Ospelt's 65. His leadership had been scrutinized by larger ski nations over spending priorities and his approach towards centralizing the sport's commercial rights.

Ospelt, a lawyer, ran a campaign focused on the need for transparency in governance and financial oversight. Following the defeat, Eliasch will lose his place in the International Olympic Committee, and he has suggested that the IOC attempted to influence the FIS vote against him.
