Tennis icon Serena Williams faced a premature halt in her doubles comeback at Queen's Club after her partner, Victoria Mboko, exited their quarter-final match due to a left knee injury on Thursday. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles winner at the age of 44, made a much-anticipated return to the court earlier this week.

The duo had made an electrifying start, toppling third seeds Erin Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 victory in their first round. However, their advancing momentum was halted as Mboko's injury curtailed their progress in the tournament.

Mboko's knee issue arose during her singles clash with Karolina Pliskova, leading to a painful exit in tears, giving way to Leylah Fernandez and Laura Siegemund advancing unchallenged to the semi-finals. Serena Williams, however, has set her sights on continuing her comeback in the doubles competition in Berlin, teaming up with Karolina Muchova.
