Jets release RB Crowell with Bell in tow

One day after signing Le'Veon Bell to a $52.5 million deal, the New York Jets released incumbent starting running back Isaiah Crowell. Crowell signed with the Jets in free agency last March after four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Crowell's release initiates a $2 million cap hit for 2019.

He had a team-high 143 carries for 685 yards and six touchdowns for the Jets in 2018. While Bell didn't play last season, the plan is to keep him on the field as a three-down back in head coach Adam Gase's system. Bell had 7,996 yards from scrimmage and 42 touchdowns in 62 games with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
