Giants RB Barkley spotted jogging on practice field

New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who has been recovering from a high ankle sprain, appears to be on the mend sooner than expected and was spotted on the practice field Wednesday, according to multiple outlets. Giants beat writer Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News was one of several reporters who posted a video on social media showing Barkley jogging and cutting in full uniform on the side of practice after stretching with his teammates.
Leonard also reported that head coach Pat Shurmur would not rule Barkley out for Sunday's home game between the Giants (2-2) and Minnesota Vikings (2-2). "Some people's doctors had him at eight weeks. Not my doctors," said Shurmur, according to Leonard.
Barkley did not need surgery on his injured right ankle, and the initial timetable for recovery was four to eight weeks. Barkley, 22, sustained the injury during the Giants' 32-31 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 22.
The 2018 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year missed the first game of his career Sunday as New York beat the visiting Washington Redskins 24-3. Barkley has rushed 37 times for 237 yards (6.4-yard average) with one touchdown and added 11 catches for 74 yards in three games this season.
