Detroit Lions running back Kerryon Johnson returned to practice Wednesday, after spending the past six weeks on injured reserve following a procedure on his right knee. Head coach Matt Patricia announced Johnson's return, which makes him eligible to return from injured reserve. He could see game action as soon as Week 16 when the Lions visit the Denver Broncos.

The stint marked the second straight year that Johnson, a second-round pick by Detroit in 2018, has landed on IR with a knee issue. He missed the final six games last season with a sprained MCL in his left knee. Johnson, 22, had 92 carries for 308 yards and two touchdowns through six games, plus nine receptions for 126 yards and a score. As a rookie last season, he totaled 854 yards from scrimmage and four TDs in 10 games.

At least for the next two contests, Bo Scarbrough and J.D. McKissic are expected to continue to lead Detroit's backfield.
