Germany Nears Deal for 100 Boxer Armoured Vehicles for Ukraine
Germany's armed forces are close to finalizing a deal for approximately 100 Boxer armoured vehicles from German-French defence contractor KNDS. The initial batch of 80 vehicles, costing over 2 billion euros, is intended for use in Ukraine, financed from a special 100 billion euro fund established post-Russian invasion in February 2022.
Germany's armed forces are nearing a deal to order approximately 100 Boxer armoured vehicles from German-French defence contractor KNDS for deployment in Ukraine, Spiegel magazine reported on Friday, citing undisclosed sources.
The first tranche of 80 vehicles is projected to cost over 2 billion euros ($2.2 billion) and will be funded from the 100 billion euro special defence fund instituted after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. KNDS and the German defence ministry have not commented on the report.
The potential order is expected to include 80 wheeled armoured howitzer RCH 155 vehicles equipped with artillery weapons. This follows Germany's recent plans to order 105 KNDS-made Leopard 2 A8 tanks for 2.9 billion euros, as reported by Reuters last month.
